An apology is requested from the United States by Russian officials who are threatening with a response after the newly elected President Biden said that he believes that the Russian President is a “killer,” reported The Hill.
The deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s upper house, Konstantin Kosachyov said that the comments that Biden gave are “unacceptable,” it’s said in multiple reports.
Following Biden’s comments, Kosachyov said that the Kremlin’s decision to recall Russia’s ambassador from the U.S. was the right move for the country.
“I suspect it will not be the last one if no explanation or apology follows from the American side,” said Kosachyov in a Facebook post, Reuters informed.
“This kind of assessment is not allowed from the mouth of a statesman of such a rank. This kind of statement is not acceptable under any circumstances,” added Kosachyov, supporting other Russian lawmaker’s criticism, as reported by the news services.
In an interview on ABC News that Biden gave on Wednesday, he said that Putin will “pay the price” for his directions on influence operations to undermine his campaign in the 2020 election.
“We had a long talk, he and I. I know him relatively well. And the conversation started and I said, ‘I know you and you know me. If I establish this occurred, then be prepared,’” said Biden in the interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News.
On the question, if he believes that Putin is a “killer,” Biden responded, “I do.”
On Thursday, Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman said that Biden made a “very bad statement” and he “doesn’t want to normalize relations,” according to The Associated Press.
“We will proceed accordingly,” said Peskov, as reported by the AP, but he doesn’t say if Russia will cut diplomatic relations with the U.S.
