TRUMP JOB APPROVAL: AVERAGE 42%

RON’S COMMENT: At 42%, Trump’s job approval is about 5 points lower than the vote he received in the November election…. Today’s average is based on five polls, ranging from 38% (Politico) to 48% (Rasmussen). Without these extremes it would be 41%…. Trump’s disapproval rating averages 56% today…. See the trend in Trump’s job approval average since the beginning of 2020  at approval trend.

HOW THE POLLS DID: GEORGIA SENATE RUNOFFS

SPECIAL ELECTION: The final Lunchtime Politics poll average showed Raphael Warnock (D) leading Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) by seven-tenths of a point. In the actual electionWarnock won by 2 points. 

  • Most accurate: The Targoz poll had Warnock ahead by 2 points.
  • Least accurate: The Trafalgar (R) poll had Loeffler ahead by 2 points (margin off by 4 points).

REGULAR ELECTION: The final Lunchtime Politics poll average showed Jon Ossoff (D) leading Sen. David Perdue (R) by seven-tenths of a pointOssoff won by 1.2 points. 

  • Most accurate: The National Research/Preserve America (R) poll had Ossoff ahead by 1 point.
  • Least accurate: The Univ. of Nevada/Las Vegas poll had Perdue ahead by 1 point. (Even though their final poll indicated the wrong winner, it still came pretty close; their margin was off by only 2.2 points.)

REMOVAL FROM OFFICE
Among adults nationwide

Do you think Donald Trump should or should not be removed from office before his term ends? 
 
Should be removed: 56%
Should NOT be removed: 43%
 
RON’S COMMENT: A clear majority want to see Trump removed from office. By party: 94% of Democrats, 58% of independents and 13% of Republicans believe he should be removed.

BLAME FOR CAPITOL RIOTING
Among adults nationwide

How much blame do you think Donald Trump deserves for the rioting that occurred in Washington D.C. this week? 
 
A great deal/a good amount: 67%
Not so much/not at all: 33%
 
RON’S COMMENT: 31% of Republicans, 69% of independents and 98% of Democrats blame Trump for the rioting at the Capitol.

PROTECTING DEMOCRACY

RON’S COMMENT: On the fundamental question of protecting American democracy, nearly seven out of ten voters have little or no trust in Trump. A majority, however, trust Biden…. Interestingly, majorities trust neither Republicans nor Democrats in Congress, although Republicans do much worse.
