Melania Trump Calls for Kindness During Holidays

During a public appearance the existing First Lady Melania Tump said that the most important thing in the middle of coronavirus pandemic and the holidays approaching is “for all of us to remember to be kind.”

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, over 283,000 Americans have died due to complications of COVID-19.

“Due to [the] coronavirus pandemic, many Americans are spending the holidays separated from their loved ones, and they have changed routines they have had for many years,” said the first lady during Tuesday remarks at a Marine Toys for Tots drive at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.

“Remember that small acts of kindness such as calling your friends and neighbors and making holiday cards for nursing homes can go a long way in spreading cheers and helping those struggling with change,” added Trump to the children and military families that were gathered at the event.

“Let’s all do a part to be best during these difficult times,” said Trump, slightly referring to Be Best, her children wellness initiative.

According to The Hill, this was the fourth year of the giving event for delivering toys to children in need, that Trump took participation in.

“It’s fantastic that you brought your children here today, teaching them that the holiday season is not just about receiving presents – it’s about kindness and giving back to your community and the less fortunate,” the first lady said, expressing thankfulness to the service members.

This year, Trump’s donation to the drive is said to be books and soccer balls, and the first lady didn’t forget to mention the White House’s holiday decor with the theme “America the beautiful,” which was unveiled last month.

“It was my goal that this year’s decorations honored and paid tribute to the people and places that have shaped this place we proudly call home,” said Trump.

The charity effort and comments are coming a few months after a secret recording aired on CNN, of the first lady appearing to vent frustration about Christmas preparations at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

“I’m working … my ass of on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives af— about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” Trump is heard saying in the recording made by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, her former friend and senior adviser.

Stephanie Grisham, Trump’s chief of staff, at the time called the audio recordings “presented with no context” and “hand-picked.”
