Saudi Arabia Calls on Global Community to Stand up to Iranian Violations

Saudi Arabia said on Tuesday the international community needs to stand up to its responsibilities toward the violations and breaches of international agreements and treaties committed by Iran, Arab News reported.

During their weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by King Salman, the council of ministers said the world especially needs to shoulder its responsibilities to the Iranian nuclear agreement, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), “which does not constitute any deterrent to Iran from its nuclear aspirations”.

The 2015 JCPOA agreement is set to expire on Oct. 18, and the US has already withdrawn from the deal and has called on other countries to follow suit.

The Cabinet said the Kingdom stressed this demand at the United Nations marking the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons on Sept. 26.

It also said it was vital that Iran “adhere to the pillars of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,” in a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency.

The Cabinet also congratulated Sudan on signing a peace agreement, saying that the “Kingdom is determined to continue its support toward preserving Sudan’s sovereignty, national unity, territorial integrity, protection from external interference, its Arab and Islamic standing to achieve its legitimate aspirations and hopes.”
