Mike Pence slammed Nancy Pelosi after she took a copy of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address and tore it apart following his speech on Tuesday evening.
The vice president appeared on “Fox & Friends”, where he said that he “wasn’t sure if she was ripping up the speech or ripping up the Constitution” when he saw Pelosi’s gesture.
“I didn’t see her do it; I found out just a few moments later. And I thought it was a new low,” Pence added.
After the President concluded his speech on Tuesday night, Pelosi took a copy of the printed speech, which she tore in half and set it down as Trump made his way off the podium to greet members of Congress.
The House Speaker later told reporters that tearing the speech “was the courteous thing to do considering the alternatives.”
“It was such a dirty speech,” Pelosi argued.
Other conservatives have also criticized the move, with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy calling Pelosi “petty”.
“How petty of Pelosi. Ripping up a piece of paper doesn’t change the facts that were written on it — Americans are winning, in spite of the do-nothing Democrats,” he tweeted.
