Facebook, Instagram Crash on Thanksgiving

Facebook on Thursday afternoon stated that all issues that caused widespread outages on its app and on the Instagram app are resolved.

“Earlier today, people may have experienced trouble accessing Facebook’s family of apps. The issue has since been resolved, we are back to 100% for everyone and we’re sorry for any inconvenience,” a Facebook spokesperson told The Hill

Spike in issues for users on both social media platforms were reported as the Thanksgiving holiday kicked off in the United States.

A Facebook spokesperson told The Hill earlier Thursday that “an issue in one of our central software systems caused many people to have trouble accessing Facebook’s family of apps.”

Facebook, which owns Instagram, did not say exactly how many users were affected but did say earlier in the day that the issue was global.

Instagram had also tweeted that people were having “trouble accessing Facebook’s family of apps, including Instagram” and it was working to resume service.

#Instagramdown was the second most trending topic on Twitter worldwide as more than 21,000 people reported issues at the outage’s peak, according to Down Detector.
