Russia’s Participation in the Next G7 Summit Would Be Useful, Trump Said

President Donald Trump said he believes it is useful if Russia joins the next G7 summit, which will be held in the United States.

“We’ll see. We talked about this topic, there was no vote or anything like that, but we talked about Russia. I am inclined to say yes, some people disagree with me, others the other way around,” Trump said, responding to journalists’ questions whether he will invite Russia to the next G7 summit.

“So we really had a discussion about Russia, I find it useful, but other people do not necessarily agree with me,” Trump added.

According to the President, the next G7 summit may be held in Miami due to its favorable location.

According to CNN, Trump is considering his Trump National Doral Golf Club as the venue for the summit. The President said that he had not yet made a final decision, but the authorities “did not find options, at least close to competing with this.”

Earlier, Trump agreed to a proposal by French President Emmanuel Macron to invite Russia to the G7 summit in 2020 in the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, said that Russia considers any contacts with the G7 countries useful and does not exclude the resumption of the G8 format. In turn, German Chancellor Angela Merkel linked the issue of resuming the G8 format with progress in the Ukrainian settlement.
