Army Col. Kathryn Spletstoser is the woman who accused Gen. John Hyten of sexual assault.
Hytem was Trump’s nominee for vice chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff and was accused of subjecting Spletstoser to unwanted sexual advances kissing, hugging and rubbing up against her in 2017.
Spletstoser had an interview with The New York Times on in which she said that it was her duty to come forward after Hytem was nominated to be the second-highest-ranking general in the country.
“I realized I have a moral responsibility to come forward. I could not live with myself if this happens to someone else, and I didn’t do anything to stop it,’’ said Spletstoser.
Pentagon spokeswoman Col. DeDe Halfhill was talking on the topic with The Hill on July 10 as she said:
“After a comprehensive investigation by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, there was insufficient evidence to support any finding of misconduct on the part of Gen. Hyten. Gen. Hyten cooperated with the investigation. Gen. Hyten has proven himself to be a principled and dedicated patriot,’’ said Halfhill.
Bill Clinton issued a statement in The Hill, in which he said:
“According to Air Force officials, there was insufficient evidence to support any finding of misconduct on the part of Gen Hyten.’’
Spletstoser’s accusations against Hyten first came to light earlier this month when the Senate Armed Services Committee was briefed on the issue, The Hill reports.
Strategic Command spokesman Clinton was talking with reporters on Thursday as he said:
“Gen. Hyten thanks Chairman James Inhofe and the committee members for this opportunity to share his side of the story.”
In the same interview with The New York Times, Spletsoser added:
“I was really distraught. But who was I going to report it to? Defense Secretary James Mattis? Really? All I was trying to do was just survive and not have my life ruined.’’
