President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani warned Monday that a renewed investigation into registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein could “implicate a lot of people,” many of whom are prominent figures.
The billionaire financier was recently indicted on sex trafficking charges with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan alleging he abused dozens of minors from 2002 to 2005. Epstein created “a network and operation enabling him to sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls,” the attorney’s office said.
Epstein denied the allegations, but was nonetheless ordered to remain in detention until his hearing due to him being a flight risk.
“It’s obviously going to implicate a lot of people — I can’t tell you who but it’s not going to end up with just Jeffrey Epstein,” Giuliani said for Hill.TV.
The President’s attorney added that Epstein’s inner circle will be questioned by investigators to determine how they could have missed any possible warning signs.
“If you spent this much time with him and he was so involved with these underaged girls — who did you see him with and what was he doing and what did he tell you and what did he say to you and how could you have missed it,” Giuliani continued. “Maybe some were innocent — maybe some weren’t, but I think they’re going to investigate everybody.”
A decade ago, Epstein pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and was sentenced to 13 months in prison. Outgoing Trump administration Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, who secured the plea deal with the billionaire in 2008, resigned recently over the criticism he received for giving Epstein such a lenient sentence.
Epstein’s charges have also raised questions over Trump’s own relationship with the financier considering they previously ran in many of the same social circles in New York. Trump has tried to distance himself from Epstein, saying the two have not spoken in 15 years and that he is “not a fan.”
