RON’S COMMENT: Today’s average is based on five polls, ranging from 42% (Reuters) to 48% (Harvard-Harris). Without these two extremes, it would still be 45%…. President Trump’s disapproval rating averages 53% today (-1 from yesterday), which is 8 points higher than his approval rating.

RON’S COMMENT: This poll has Biden far ahead with Sanders second and Harris third.

CHINA AND TRADE
Among U.S. voters nationwide

Do you approve or disapprove of the administration’s decision to increase tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods from 10% to 25% in response to China backtracking on a trade deal between the two countries?
 
Approve: 53%
Disapprove: 47%
 
RON’S COMMENT: A majority of voters favor the increased tariffs. But, the next question indicates that voters are evenly split on whether trade negotiations will help or hurt the economy.
 
Do you think trade negotiations with China will eventually help the economy, hurt the economy, or not have an impact?
 
Help economy: 43%
Hurt economy: 43%
No impact: 14%

RON’S COMMENT: To be clear, this question should have specified that “the economy” in question is the U.S. economy, since it refers to negotiations between two countries.
 
Should the United States target Chinese technology companies to punish China for trade infringements?
 
Yes, it should: 57%
No, it should not: 43%
 
Should the United States forgive Chinese technology companies for their infringement of U.S. and international laws in exchange for concessions from China in our trade negotiations?
 
Yes: 34%
No: 66%

RON’S COMMENT: There is strong sentiment against forgiving Chinese companies for legal infringement, even in exchange for trade concessions.
 
How concerned are you about the United States losing technological supremacy to China in the near future?
 
Very or somewhat concerned: 68%
Not very concerned or not concerned at all: 32%
 
RON’S COMMENT: Losing technological supremacy to China seems to have a lot of juice as a presidential campaign issue. Expect to hear more about this on the campaign trail.

INFRASTRUCTURE PRIORITIES
Among voters nationwide

Which of the following should be a priority for spending in the infrastructure bill?

RON’S COMMENT: Transportation projects, especially roads, bridges and tunnels, lead voter wish lists for infrastructure spending. Majorities also say rivers and waterways and affordable housing should be “major” priorities. 

HEALTHCARE TRANSPARENCY

Would you favor or oppose an initiative by the government to mandate insurers, hospitals, doctors and other providers to disclose the cost of their services and discounted or negotiated rates between these groups?
 
Favor: 88%
Oppose: 12%
 
Would you favor or oppose an initiative for greater transparency on health care costs even if in the short term it leads to an increase in prices by some providers?
 
Favor: 65%
Oppose: 35%
 
RON’S COMMENT: Cost transparency is highly popular, even if it means some increased costs in the short term.
