Former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe stated that he had a “bizarre” job interview with President Donald Trump where the President discussed his 2016 election victory conducted with him.
McCabe, during an interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes”, spoke at length about his time in the FBI under Trump and his meeting with the President when he was interviewing to be the bureau’s permanent director following former FBI Director James Comey’s firing.
“It was a bit of a bizarre experience,” McCabe said. “I went in for my interview with the President and he began by talking to me about his electoral college results in the state of North Carolina.”
McCabe added that he “didn’t really know about or understand how it related to the position” he was interviewing for.
“Not the point of the meeting,” host Scott Pelley said, to which McCabe responded, “no it wasn’t.”
McCabe’s remarks were part of a wide-ranging interview with Pelley that aired Sunday.
Portions of the interview were released last week, prompting Trump to lash out at McCabe in multiple posts on Twitter.
On Thursday Trump mocked McCabe in a series of tweets.
“Disgraced FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe pretends to be a ‘poor little Angel’ when in fact he was a big part of the Crooked Hillary Scandal & the Russia Hoax – a puppet for Leakin’ James Comey. I.G. report on McCabe was devastating. Part of “insurance policy” in case I won….”
“….Many of the top FBI brass were fired, forced to leave, or left. McCabe’s wife received BIG DOLLARS from Clinton people for her campaign – he gave Hillary a pass. McCabe is a disgrace to the FBI and a disgrace to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
McCabe was fired by the bureau last March after an investigation found he made an unauthorized leak to the media and “lacked candor” on multiple occasions, including under oath.
McCabe’s appearance on CBS is part of the promotion of his new book, “The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump.”
