Obama Blasts Republicans for ‘Racked up’ Indictments

Former President Barack Obama, who was campaigning for Democrats ahead of the Tuesday midterms, slammed Republicans on Sunday, saying they have “racked up enough indictments to field a football team.”

Obama further said President Donald Trump’s administration and the GOP-controlled Congress were corrupt. “All right, so now they’ve had two years of total control in Washington. What have they done with that power?” the former president said at a rally in Gary, Indiana.

When the crowd shouted that they had done nothing, Obama responded, “Nah, nah, nah, it’s not true. They haven’t done nothing. They’ve done something. They promised they were going to take on corruption in Washington. Instead, they’ve racked up enough indictments to field a football team.”

He also pointed to the fact that no one from his administration got indicted, saying it “is not that high a bar.”

CNN writes that GOP Representatives Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins were both indicted in August on unrelated charges, while Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, and George Papadopolous, all connected to the 2016 Trump campaign, were charged, pleaded guilty, or were convicted at trial earlier this year.

They were all charged or convicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Former national security adviser Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, former Trump campaign aide Papadopolous was sentenced to two weeks in prison for lying to investigators about his contact with individuals tied to Russia during the 2016 campaign and Manafort Trump’s former campaign chairman, was convicted on several federal crimes.

President Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen has also pleaded guilty to eight criminal counts, including tax evasion and campaign finance violations.
