Speaking at a rally in Montana, President Donald Trump accused Democrats of being responsible for the formation of the caravan of 4,000 migrants which is moving north towards the U.S. border.
“Now we’re starting to find out and I won’t say it 100 percent, I’ll put a little tiny question mark at the end…A lot of money’s been passing through, people to come up and try and get to the border by election day because they think that’s a negative for us,” he said at a campaign rally for Republicans in Missoula, Montana.
Trump went on to say that “there are those that say that caravan didn’t just happen,” maintaining that Democrats wanted the caravan to make it through Mexico and reach the U.S. border, because “they also figure everybody coming in is going to vote Democrat,” and adding that “they’re not so stupid” after all.
The President then noted that if need be he would send the military to the southern border in order to prevent more migrants from coming into the country, The Hill reports.
“As you know I’m willing to send the military to defend our southern border if necessary, all caused because of the illegal immigration onslaught brought by the Democrats because they refuse to acknowledge or change the laws,” he said.
Trump first threatened to send the army to the border and stop aid to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador if they do not stop the caravan, in a tweet on Thursday where he singled Democrats out as responsible for the influx of migrants in the United States.
“I am watching the Democrat Party-led (because they want Open Borders and existing weak laws) assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to U.S.,” President Trump’s tweet read.
In a follow-up tweet, he urged Mexico to “stop this onslaught.”
