Trump’s Legal Team Yet to Decide on Response to Special Counsel’s Written Questions

President Donald Trump’s legal team is still musing on the idea of accepting “the proposition” to answer the special counsel’s request for a written response pertaining to his investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The President’s top personal lawyer Jay Sekulow, commenting on reports that special counsel Robert Mueller would accept written answers on questions about alleged election interference, said the decision whether to respond has not been made yet.

“But I will tell you this, I’m not concerned about the President of the United States responding, if we decide to accept the proposition of responding to written questions, responding to questions about Russia and interference with the election,” Sekulow told Fox News’ ‘Hannity’.

He further noted that he would not “discuss the contents of what has been agreed to or not agreed to” between the special counsel’s office and Trump’s legal team, who Sekulow said have “an ongoing dialogue.”

A report by The New York Times, which cited two people with information on the matter, said the special counsel would not give up on an interview concerning questions of obstruction of justice, election meddling and collusion. In response, Sekulow stressed that he was “not worried about questions on Russia,” refusing to address the obstruction probe.

“The President is committed. There’s no crime here, no underlying crime that the President was involved in. I’m not concerned about where that goes. Look, if they ask questions, and we think they’re appropriate, we would respond,” Sekulow noted.

The lawyer also pointed out that so far the White House has cooperated fully with the special counsel’s investigation, handing over 1.4 million pages of documents to his investigators.

“This needs to come to an end,” Sekulow continued, saying “it needs to happen sooner than later.”
