Bill Gates Recalls Meetings with Trump

Former Microsoft CEO and co-founder Bill Gates recounts how on one occasion President Donald Trump left an equestrian event in Florida and after some time returned in a helicopter touching down with a “grand entrance.”

In a video obtained by MSNBC and aired Thursday night on “All In with Chris Hayes,” Gates tells the audience about his personal interactions with Trump, whom he met only after the real estate mogul won the 2016 election.  However, Gates said that Trump spoke with his daughter Jennifer at an equestrian event in Florida, and was “super nice.”

“But then, twenty minutes later, he flew in in a helicopter to the same place, so clearly he had been driven away and he wanted to make a grand entrance in a helicopter,” Gates said in the clip.

He also said that he first met President Trump shortly after he won the presidential election. At that meeting, in Trump Tower, Gates said he advised Trump to “be associated with innovation.” Gates also met with Trump once again in March 2017, but this time at the White House.

In both meetings, Gates said that Trump asked him if he believes vaccines are dangerous.

“In both of those two meetings, he asked me if vaccines weren’t a bad thing, because he was considering a commission to look into ill effects of vaccines,” Gates said.

Trump has repeatedly questioned the need for vaccines and has repeated a debunked theory that they are linked to autism in infants and young children. Gates also said last month that Trump was “super interested” in the idea of a universal flu vaccine.

Talks and research about ill effects of the vaccines have come to the public eye in recent years. Trump also vowed that the White House will combat the issue.
