Americans now are the most satisfied with the way things are going in the country since the 2016 election, according to a new poll.
A Gallup poll which was released on Thursday found that thirty-seven percent of Americans said they were satisfied in May after North Korea announced it would dismantle its nuclear testing site and engage in diplomatic talks with President Donald Trump, which is 8 points higher than last month.
In October 2016, the level of satisfaction was also 37 percent, while 36 percent were satisfied after President Trump’s State of the Union address in February. Gallup’s highest level of satisfaction was in September 2005, when it stood at 39 percent.
Meanwhile, satisfaction among Republicans rose in the new survey from 57 to 63 percent and from 26 to 35 percent among independents, while Democrats remained at 14 percent. The current 37 percent satisfaction level matches the historical average, which dates back to 1979 when the group first began using the question.
The new Gallup poll was conducted from May 1-10 and surveyed 1,024 adults with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
Another poll showed that the percentage of people who consider Trump to be honest and trustworthy is only thirteen percent. The Survey Monkey tracking poll found that Trump’s honesty and trustworthiness score is down three points from when it started conducting the tracking polls in February of 2017.
In the same poll, thirty-five percent of Americans said that they believe Trump has the ability to get things done, while 33 percent of those polled said he was tough enough for the job.
Also, forty-one percent of those surveyed said Mueller stands up for what he believes in.
The Survey Monkey tracking polls were conducted between February 1, 2017, and May 9, 2018, and 929,225 adults were surveyed.
