Rudy Giuliani, who is the newest member of President Donald Trump’s legal team, as well as former New York City Mayor, said on Wednesday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein should end special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
“He never expected this from Jeff,” Giuliani told Fox News host Sean Hannity Wednesday night. “The two of them can redeem themselves, Sessions and Rosenstein, they should order the investigation over.”
Rosenstein as Number 2 official in the DOJ is the one overseeing the probe because Sessions recused himself.
“To watch this happen under a man I love, Jeff Sessions, I just feel bad. I know the President is heartbroken over this,” Giuliani said.
However, Giuliani also noted that Sessions and Rosenstein probably won’t shut down the investigation.
On Wednesday, Trump threatened to “get involved” in a dispute between House Republicans and Rosenstein after it was revealed that Republicans in the House Freedom Caucus had drafted articles of impeachment against Rosenstein. Trump has reportedly wanted to fire Mueller in the past but changed his mind after White House counsel threatened to quit.
Giuliani also told the Fox News host that Trump reimbursed his personal lawyer Michael Cohen the $130,000 he gave to the adult-film star Stormy Daniels as part of a non-disclosure agreement meant to prevent Daniels from speaking about her alleged affair with Trump.
“It’s not campaign money. No campaign finance violation. They funneled through a law firm and the President repaid it,” Giuliani said. “He didn’t know about the specifics of it as far as I know, but he did know about the general arrangement, that Michael would take care of things like this,” he added.
Cohen admitted to giving the money adding it was out of his own pocket.
