Trump’s Approval Rating Remains Underwater Despite Slight Improvement

A new NBC/WSJ poll released on Sunday showed that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has improved slightly but still remains low.

According to the poll, 43 percent of Americans approve of the President’s job performance, which is a four-point increase from two months ago. Yet, a majority of respondents – 53 percent – still disapprove of his performance in office, compared to 56 percent in January, CNN informs.

The poll was conducted from March 10-14 and found that the increase in Trump’s approval came from white males, Republicans and independent respondents. In January, 61% of independents in a WSJ survey disapproved of the President’s job performance. In March, his disapproval is at 51%, with 45% of those surveyed approving.

However, it is still the lowest approval rating of his predecessors at this point in the presidency, NBC said. It falls behind one point compared to the previous lowest record of 44 percent set by President Gerald R. Ford. For previous presidents, the average approval at 14 months into the term is 58 percent.

CNN also wrote that among registered voters expected to cast their vote in the November midterm elections, there was a 10-point preference for Democrats. Namely, 50 percent of voters said they’d prefer to have a Democrat-controlled Congress, while 40 percent said they wanted a Republican-controlled Congress.

The latest poll shows a shift in Democrats’ favor compared to January’s 49% to 43% edge. It also found higher early enthusiasm for the upcoming election among Democratic voters. Sixty percent said they have a high degree of interest, while 54 percent of Republicans said they did.

However, there is still cause for concern for Democrats. The March poll found that just 21 percent of voters have a positive image of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, down 4 percentage points from a poll six months ago.

The overall margin of error in the poll was +/- 3.0 points and +/- 3.2 points for registered voters.
