Trump Pressures DOJ to Open Investigation about Obama

As special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into the allegations of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians heats up, President Donald Trump attacked Attorney General Jeff Sessions for not starting an investigation on former President Barack Obama for not doing anything if Russia interfered in the 2016 elections.

According to The Hill, President Trump is pressuring attorney general Jeff Sessions to open an investigation into the Obama administration over Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

The president asked on Wednesday why Democrats are not under investigation, implying that they have already done crimes regarding the election.

“Question: If all of the Russian meddlings took place during the Obama Administration, right up to January 20th, why aren’t they the subject of the investigation? Why didn’t Obama do something about the meddling? Why aren’t Dem crimes under investigation? Ask Jeff Session!” Trump tweeted.

However, President Obama during his last months in office took actions against the Russians.

Obama reportedly asked several Republican leaders to join him in issuing a bipartisan message to the American people apprising them of Russia’s interference. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused and warned President Obama of repercussions if he told American citizens, warning him not to use the information as a tool to help select Hillary Clinton.

Obama also imposed strict sanctions on Russia, including forcing dozens of Russian diplomats to leave the U.S. and shutting down two Russian compounds in the U.S., at least one of which was used in massive spying operations.

Trump lately is under big pressure from the ongoing Mueller investigation.

Mueller last Friday indicted dozen of Russian nationalists, also several new charges were applied to Trump’s campaign head Paul Manafort and his close partners.

Meanwhile, Richard Gates who was Manafort right hand is close to reaching a plea deal with Mueller where he will testify against Manafort in exchange for a reduced sentence.
