The two famous FBI officials, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who were discovered to have criticized President Donald Trump in text messages back in 2016, also praised former FBI director James Comey while criticizing Congress.
Strzok and Page in a text exchange mocked Congress as “worthless.” The conversation took place in July 2016 while Comey was defending to Congress the FBI’s decision regarding Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
Page wrote in a text message that Congress is “utterly worthless,” which Strzok responded to by saying, “Less than worthless.”
Additionally, they also praised Comey, calling him “brilliant.”
“God he is SO good,” Strzok wrote, on which Page responded “I know, brilliant public speaker. And brilliant distillation of fact.”
According to The Associated Press, that exchange is included among 384 pages of text messages between Page and Strzok provided by the Justice Department to Congress and reviewed by The Associated Press. The texts, part of an inspector general investigation into the handling of the Clinton email probe, are most notable for derogatory messages about President Donald Trump, the discovery of which led to Strzok’s reassignment from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team.
However, they also include wide-ranging and unguarded discussion about a variety of current events and public figures, including Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and an encryption court fight with Apple, as well as candid assessments of their colleagues and their FBI careers and futures.
A handful of Republicans have said their back and forth reveals bias against the president within top levels of the government.
Some GOP lawmakers have particularly homed in on the fact that the two agents not only served on Mueller’s probe looking into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russia, but were also involved in the federal investigation into whether Clinton mishandled classified information with an email server as secretary of State.
Last year, Trump fired Comey, who has in recent weeks, has taken to Twitter to comment on various political events.
