The text messages between the two FBI agents reveal that former FBI Director Andrew McCabe waited for at least a month before informing Congress and former FBI Director James Comey about the new emails found regarding Clinton’s email investigation.
The Wall Street Journal, Wednesday reported that it had obtained text messages between FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page which show that McCabe knew of thousands of new emails pertaining to Clinton’s private email server used at the State Department on or before September 28, 2016, a month before Comey informed Congress about the emails on October 28.
McCabe’s apparent inaction on the emails, which were found on the laptop of disgraced Democratic New York Representative Anthony Weiner during his sex crimes investigation, is the subject of an FBI inspector general investigation, which seeks to discover whether McCabe withheld the information from the public for political reasons.
The text messages were sent by FBI agent Peter Strzok who was removed from the Russia investigation after it text messages showed political bias against the president.
“Got called up to Andy’s earlier, hundreds of thousands of emails turned over by Weiner’s atty to sdny, includes a ton of material from spouse. Sending team up tomorrow to review … this will never end,” Strzok wrote in a September 28 text.
According to The Hill, in September of 2016, investigators searching a laptop belonging to Weiner discovered thousands of emails related to Clinton’s private email server used during her time at the State Department. The emails were a result of the device being used for work by Huma Abedin, Weiner’s wife and a close aide to Clinton.
The battle still continues as Clinton supporters argue that the FBI’s late decision to reopen the email investigation shifted the election towards Trump while the other side argues of a political bias in the Russia investigation.
