Sessions: We Should Make Sure They Have Education and Skills to Prosper in America

On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions asked for stricter immigration laws and increased vetting of individuals entering the U.S. This comes after a fierce debate between the White House and Congress regarding the immigration reform.

“What the American people want, have a right to, and what’s good for America is a lawful system of immigration. And when we admit people to our country, we should be like Canada,” Sessions told the Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“We should evaluate them and make sure they are going to be lawful, they are not threats to us, they have the education and skills level to prosper in America. That’s good for them and good for America,” Sessions added.

The Attorney General told Carlson that President Donald Trump is not against immigration, but that the president wants stricter vetting of potential immigrants, and to accept only those who will be successful and contribute to the society in the U.S.

On Wednesday, a group of six bipartisan senators is expected to release a bill on immigration and border security. Meanwhile, Trump already disapproved the solution found by the group.

According to The Hill, the new bill is meant to give a different solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, $2.7 billion for border security — including a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border — and changes to the diversity lottery program.

On Tuesday, Sessions dismissed the proposal stating that it has no prospect of success.

The Attorney General asked Congress to support the bill presented by Representative Bob Goodlatte which is a far more aggressive immigration law than the one by the bipartisan group.

“We’re going to have some votes in Congress. People need to be held to account or you are going to fix this system, create a system that protects America,” Sessions said.
