New Poll Says Democrats Will Probably Regain Control of Congress

According to a new poll that was carried out by Politico and Morning Consult, it turns out people think it is somewhat likely that the Democratic Party will take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections.

The poll numbers show that about 45 percent of voters say that it is very or somewhat likely that the Democratic Party will be able to take back the Congress, where about 38 percent of the voters think that it is not too likely or not at all likely that Democrats will regain control of House and Senate.

The Democratic party has an 8 point lead, 44 to 36 percent against the Republican Party, regarding a generic congressional ballot.

1,988 registered voters were part of the poll that was conducted from January 4 to 5. There is a 2 percent margin of error as reported by The Hill.

It is not uncommon for midterm elections for a first-term president to be grim for the party in control of the White House. This year, President Donald Trump’s low approval ratings have contributed to bigger chances of Democrats being able to pick up the seats they are missing in order to regain control of the House.

Another poll also carried out by Politico/Morning Consult, says that almost half of the voters believe that it is likely President Trump will be cleared in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller regarding the alleged connection between Trump’s campaign and Russia’s meddling in the 2016 elections.

48 percent of the voters in this poll say that it is very or somewhat likely the president will be cleared on wrongdoing in the investigation, where on the other hand 37 percent of the voters said that “it is not too likely or not at all likely” that the president will be exonerated.

The second poll comes after Mueller’s investigation came close into Trump’s inner circle, especially with the talk of Mueller questioning the president in the following period.
