Sally Yates Says She Did What She Needed to as Attorney General

Sally Yates the former Attorney General said in a statement that she would not have done anything differently while working in President Trump’s administration.

“I was in the chair. I was the acting attorney general, and I needed to do my job. So that’s what I did,” Yates said to the students at Wellesley College this Monday, as reported by The Boston Globe.

Sally Yates came to public attention when President Donald Trump suddenly fired her from her post last year because she refused to defend Trump’s travel ban. Since then Yates has become a regular critic of Donald Trump’s White House.

In her speech, Yates also encouraged women to act, as she said, like “your authentic self.”

“I can remember trials where I was very conscious of not coming across as too aggressive. I felt like I had to take the edge off because if I was too assertive, I’d alienate not only the men in the room but other women,” Yates said to the students.

“Those days are over. You should be comfortable in your own skin and be your authentic self,” she added.

“If we are going to grab hold of this moment, like I think we all really should, we should all be empowered to be who we really are,” Yates concluded her speech.

These comments from the former acting Attorney General come after women started speaking publicly about the sexual harassment they have experienced by politicians and members of the entertainment industry.

Last year, after all the sexual misconduct allegations that were made against politicians several lawmakers and public figures resigned or announced early retirement. This has paved the way for a new wave of female politicians to be heard and to acquire bigger influence than before.
