DOJ to Give House Key Documents in Russia Probe

The House and Justice Department reached a deal to provide the Russia election meddling probe long-sought documents and access to key witnesses, The Hill reported. Before the deal was reached, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Chris Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein visited House Speaker Paul Ryan.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes was the one who announced the deal. He was also the one who sought for the information and announced even more drastic action if his panel did not get access to the information.

“After speaking to Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein this evening, I believe the House Intelligence Committee has reached an agreement with the Department of Justice that will provide the committee with access to all the documents and witnesses we have requested. The committee looks forward to receiving access to the documents over the coming days,” Nunes stated.

He has previously criticized the DOJ because it failed to respond to the requests for documents. Nunes suggested that the department was doing it deliberately. Last week he even wrote a letter to Rosenstein and told him that it seemed like the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation needed to be investigating themselves.

Some members of the Republican Party suggested that the bureau used the dossier to launch a trumped-up investigation into Trump. The dossier contains salacious allegations about Trump.

Several congressional committees conduct investigations into the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and the alleged connection between Trump’s campaign and the Russians. The House Intelligence Committee is one of them. Nunes rescued himself from the probe of his committee.
