While hosting a radio show on Wednesday, Steve Bannon called President Donald Trump “a great man,” despite previously being harshly criticized by him.
Meanwhile, the president’s attorney said that a cease and desist letter was sent to the former top aide over comments made in a new book by Michael Wolff in which Bannon calls the meeting between Trump’s eldest son, son-in-law Jared Kushner, former campaign manager Paul Manafort and a Russian lawyer “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.”
“This law firm represents President Donald J. Trump and Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. On behalf of our clients, a legal notice was issued today to Stephen K. Bannon, that his actions of communicating with author Michael Wolff regarding an upcoming book give rise to numerous legal claims including defamation by libel and slander, and breach of his written confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement with our clients. Legal action is imminent,” the attorney’s statement said.
Earlier the same day, the president criticized his former chief strategist saying that Bannon “lost his mind” after being removed from the administration. Trump’s statement questioned Bannon’s mental stability and dismissed his political influence.
However, regardless of the president’s harsh remarks, Bannon said on his radio show, Breitbart News Tonight, that Trump was “a great man,” and added that he still supported him. This was the only comment made regarding Trump, with Bannon focusing mainly on immigration policy.
In the course of the six months spent inside the White House, Bannon had a significant influence as an adviser to the president, making sure Trump kept some of his most far-reaching campaign promises, CNN says.
Even after being pushed out of the administration, the former top aide retained his influence and continued advising the president over phone.
