People at Highest Levels of Government Won’t Let America be America, Trump Jr. Says

President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. reportedly argued that the Russia investigation shows that there are persons at the highest levels of government that do not want to let America be America.

“There is, and there are, people at the highest levels of government that don’t want to let America be America,” Donald Trump Jr. told a gathering of young conservative activists in West Palm Beach, Florida, CNN reports.

Trump Jr. Railed against special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and criticized the media’s coverage of the Russia story. According to him, the probe was emblematic of the kind of “rigged system” Trump railed against during the campaign.

“My father talked about a rigged system throughout the campaign, and people were like, ‘Oh, what are you talking about?’ But it is. And you’re seeing it? There is and there are people at the highest levels of government that don’t want to let America be America,” Trump Jr. said.

Citing anti-Trump text messages sent by an FBI agent formerly working on the Russia probe, Trump Jr. said “there’d be revolution in the streets” if this happened to former President Obama, The Hill reports.

His remarks come as conservative pundits and some Republicans questioned the integrity of the special counsel’s investigation. Those persons have referenced anti-Trump text messages FBI agent Peter Strzok sent during the campaign last year. The agent was reportedly removed from the Russia probe after the messages were revealed.

Trump’s eldest son has met the Senate and the House Intelligence Committees and one of the reasons for that is his meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised harmful information about Hillary Clinton. The meeting happened during the pre-election campaign.
