Jared Kushner Deserves Scrutiny in Mueller Probe, Chris Christie Says

Chris Christie, a New Jersey Governor who helped put Jared Kushner’s father in prison, encouraged Russia probe investigators to closely examine any hand Jared may have had in potential wrongdoings by the Trump campaign, Newsweek reported.

Christie explained on MSNBC’s Deadline White House why she thinks that Kushner deserves the scrutiny.

“Because he was involved in the transition and involved in meetings that call into question his role. Well then if he’s innocent of that, then that will come out as (special counsel Robert) Mueller examines all the facts. And if he’s not, that will come out too,” Christie said.

According to several news outlets, Kushner was the senior member of Trump’s transition team who ordered former national security adviser Michael Flynn to contact Russian officials to try to stop a UN resolution condemning Israeli settlement activity before Trump’s inauguration. After Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his communications with Russians, Kushner’s connection came to light in court documents filed by Mueller in the case against the former adviser.

There were also reports that Kushner, Donald Trump Jr., and Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort met a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer in June 2016. The lawyer reportedly promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton but did not provide it.

“Whether he deserves it or not, he’s getting it. And the facts will determine that ultimately,” Christie said.

Christie prosecuted Kushner’s father in the early 2000’s for tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign donations. In the end, the real estate developer spent two years in federal prison. In March Christie denied that he and the younger Kushner have a tense relationship over his father’s sentence. At the time he said that”that stuff is ancient history.” Christie was also a chairman of Trump’s transition for about half a year and recently said that that was a big mistake.
