British Publicist Who Arranged Trump Jr.’s Meeting With Russian Lawyer to Testify Before Committees

The British publicist Rob Goldstone, who arranged the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer in June last year, will go before the House and Senate Intelligence Committees as soon as next week, CNN reports and adds that this is a new sign that the publicist is ready to cooperate with the investigators.

Goldstone recently said that he would go to the United States and would talk with special counsel Robert Mueller, who leads the investigation into the possible Russian meddling in the presidential election and the connection between Trump and Russia.

“I’m keen to talk to them and put my recollection of events in the public record. After the story initially broke, it seemed to quiet down for a while. But now it’s back in the news with such force, I feel it’s time for me to explain what happened,” he told The Sunday Times last month.

After the revelations that Goldstone helped set up a meeting between Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer who allegedly offered damaging information on Trump’s rival in the race, Hillary Clinton, the British music producer became a central figure. Goldstone himself was present for the meeting, but he was not the only one. White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort were also at Trump Tower in New York.

According to Goldstone, the Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya promised information on Clinton but actually wanted to discuss the Magnitsky Act. Goldstone set up the meeting on behalf of his client Emin Agalarov. Emin is a Russian pop star and his father is a real estate mogul with ties to Vladimir Putin.

Most of the eight people who were at the meeting have already been interviewed by the congressional panels. Trump Jr. said that the meeting was focused on Russia. The son of the president is supposed to testify before congressional investigators for the second time.
