Trump Offers Support for Roy Moore, Says his Vote Is Needed in Senate

President Donald Trump supported GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore and called on voters to elect him because his vote was needed in the Senate. Shortly after Trump’s tweets, Moore tweeted his thanks for Trump’s endorsement.

“Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama. We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!,” Trump wrote on Twitter, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer.

According to the Associated Press, this was Trump’s strongest show of support for Moore, who has been blamed by multiple women of sexual misconduct and one even said that the candidate initiated sexual contact with her when she was 14. The president continued tweeting and attacked Moore’s Democratic rival, Doug Jones.

“Putting a Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Puppet Jones into office in Alabama would hurt our great Republican Agenda of low on taxes, tough on crime, strong on military and borders…& so much more,” Trump tweeted.

Moore also used Twitter to thank the president, saying, “Thankful for President Trump’s support. The America First agenda will #MAGA. Can’t wait to help him #DrainTheSwamp,” Moore wrote on Twitter.

Trump declined to explicitly endorse Moore, but the Republicans cannot afford to lose the Senate seat in Alabama, The Hill reports. Many national Republicans have called on Moore to step aside, but he remained defiant. According to the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnel, the people of Alabama will decide whether Moore wins.

“I’m going to let the people of Alabama make the call,” McConnell said even though he had previously called for Moore to step aside in the race.
