Trump Is ‘an Idiot’ for Using Egypt Mosque Attack to Push Border Wall, Democrat Says

Representative Filemon Vela called President Donald Trump “an idiot” for suggesting that the mosque attack in Egypt on Friday proved the need for a wall along the U.S. southern border.

“What an idiot… Does [President Trump] foolishly think a border wall would have prevented 9/11, Charleston, San Bernardino, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Sutherland Springs?” Vela tweeted after Trump’s tweet about the attack in Egypt.

The Democratic congressman listed several mass murders that have happened in the United States during the last few years and were mostly committed by American citizens. Previously, Trump called once again for a wall between the U.S. and Mexico right after the attack in Egypt. More than 300 people lost their lives in an attack on a mosque on Friday.

“Will be calling the President of Egypt in a short while to discuss the tragic terrorist attack, with so much loss of life. We have to get tougher and smarter than ever before, and we will. Need the wall, need the ban! God bless the people of Egypt.” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Vela has long time criticized Trump’s proposed border wall and in October the Democrat proposed an amendment to a border security bill that would put in law the terms Trump used to describe the wall. The amendment would have defined in law a border wall system as “a wall between the United States and Mexico that is,” among others, “big and beautiful,” “see-through,”  “real,” “inclusive of a door,” “aesthetically-pleasing and consistent with the general surrounding environment,” and “paid for by the Mexican Government.”

“Will the wall, as authorized under this bill, have ‘a big, beautiful door’ for legal immigrants like President Trump said he envisioned back in August 2016?” Vela asked in his statement.
