Senator John McCain in an interview with Esquire said he doesn’t think President Donald Trump has principles and benefits.
“I don’t agree with the way he’s conducting his presidency, obviously. He’s an individual that unfortunately is not anchored by a set of principles. I think he’s a person who takes advantage of situations,” McCain said.
According to McCain, Trump was successful as a builder and an entrepreneur.
“But I don’t think he has the fundamental underpinnings of principles and beliefs. I don’t think there was any doubt about his views toward me. But I’m a loyal Republican,” the senator said.
This is not the first time McCain has criticized Trump. Last month he blasted the half-baked, spurious nationalism in the United States. The president has warned him that he could also attack him.
“At some point, I fight back and it won’t be pretty,” Trump said as a response to senator’s comments.
Then the response from McCain followed and he said that he had faced far greater challenges than that one. The president attacked McCain because of his vote against a GOP bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare. The Republican from Arizona voted against and his vote killed and left ObamaCare the law of the land, The Hill reminds. After that, Trump said that with his vote McCain let down his party and the people of Arizona.
McCain called his Senate colleagues’ campaign to repeal and replace ObamaCare this summer “insanity,” and told Trump he was sorry he could not vote the party line.
“I thank you, Mr. President, for your involvement. I cannot vote for something called Skinny Repeal. I can’t do it. I didn’t even see the bill until today. I mean, this is insanity. I appreciate the call and now I have to go vote, and I’m sorry,” McCain told Trump several minutes before the vote.
