Roy Moore’s Communications Director Resigns

While Senate candidate Roy Moore combats allegations that he has harassed and sexually assaulted young girls, his communications director decided to resign. Reuters reported that John Rogers, Moore’s spokesman, decided to leave the campaign on November 17.

“As we all know, campaigns make changes throughout the duration of the campaign. John made the decision to leave the campaign last Friday – any representations to the contrary are false – and we wish him well,” campaign Chairman Bill Armistead said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Washingtonian reached Rogers by phone and he confirmed his resignation but did not say anything else. Dan Gallo, Fox News journalist, wrote on Twitter that he spoke to Brett Doster, Moore campaign adviser.

“Unfortunately John just did not have the experience to deal with the press the last couple of weeks, and we’ve had to make a change,” Doster told Gallo.

Moore has denied the allegations and accused the women of conspiring with Democrats, media outlets and establishment Republicans in an effort to derail his campaign. The news of Rogers’ resignation came only one day after President Donald Trump defended Moore from accusations of inappropriate behavior.

“Roy Moore denies it; that’s all I can say. I can tell you one thing for sure: We don’t need a liberal person in there, a Democrat,” Trump said.

The president ignored the questions about whether he believes Moore’s denials, but said that next week he will announce whether he intends to go to Alabama to campaign for the Republican, USA Today reported. Moore won the nomination for the special election scheduled for December 12, in a hotly contested primary against incumbent Senator Luther Strange.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders issued a statement right after the charges against Moore arose and said that Trump expected that, if the allegations are true, “Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside.”
