Ivanka Trump tweeted a link to an article written by The New York Times and raised questions whether she has the same opinion as her father when it comes to liberal media, Newsweek reports. President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter highlighted an important issue raised by the paper, sharing what she described as a “heart-wrenching story.”
She shared the link to the article and wrote “Heart wrenching story of one young girl’s exploitation by traffickers. We must come together to #EndModernSlavery.” Several days ago, Trump called the newspaper “dumb and failing” and criticized it for its foreign policy reporting.
“It is actually hard to believe how naive (or dumb) the Failing @nytimes is when it comes to foreign policy…weak and ineffective!” the president wrote on Twitter last week. Trump has also criticized the Times for a story published last month that said that he had not fulfilled his campaign promises.
“The Failing @nytimes, in a story by Peter Baker, should have mentioned the rapid terminations by me of TPP & The Paris Accord & the fast … approvals of The Keystone XL & Dakota Access pipelines. Also, look at the recent EPA cancellations & our great new Supreme Court Justice!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
The president has repeatedly dubbed the mainstream media as “fake news.” But the newspaper has also criticized the president. A columnist for The New York Times described Trump as a liar like Hitler.
“Trump is no Hitler, but the way he has manipulated the American people with outrageous lies, stacked one on top of the other, has an eerie historical resonance. Demagogy has a fixed design,” wrote New York Times columnist Charles Blow.
