The number of the people connected to President Donald Trump that have met or spoken to the former Russian ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak is very big, said the ambassador himself, but did not want to name them.
“First, I’m never going to do that. And second, the list is so long that I’m not going to be able to go through it in 20 minutes,” Kislyak told state-owned TV station Russia-1.
He joked about the American investigations into the alleged Russian meddling in last year’s election and said that Trump was witty, CNBC reported.
Previously Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified before the House Judiciary Committee and said that he didn’t lie under oath during his confirmation hearing. At that time Sessions said that he was not aware of any contacts between Trump campaign and the Russians. Sessions clashed with Democrats about this.
“That is exactly the opposite answer you gave under oath to the U.S. Senate. Either you’re lying to the U.S. Senate or you’re lying to the U.S. House of Representatives,” Representative Ted Lieu said.
But Sessions replied that he had always told the truth. Sessions held two meetings with Kislyak in 2016 while the U.S. was preparing for the presidential election. Once they met at the Republican National Convention and the second meeting was in Sessions’ Senate office where they allegedly discussed campaign-related things.
When the host asked the former Russian ambassador whether Sessions was telling the truth, Kislyak demurred and added that the testimony of the American Attorney General gave him a feeling of deja vu.
“The questions are all the same. There’s absolutely nothing new. But most important, this is no longer about us. This is no longer about me. This isn’t about contacts with us. This is a war that’s going on between the opponents of the president, the president and everyone surrounding him,” he said.
