Democrats to Introduce New Articles of Impeachment Against Trump

A group of House Democrats will introduce new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in front of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The move was announced by the office of Representative Steve Cohen, who has confirmed several months ago that he would join the push because of Trump’s response to the deadly white supremacist marches in Charlottesville.

So far, only Luis Gutierrez confirmed that he would join hands with Cohen, but it is not known how many other Democrats will support them. The grounds that the articles would cite are also unknown. Gutierrez is a loud critic of the president. Recently he stated that the lawmakers were cooperating with lawyers.

“It is clear to us that he is unfit to be president of the United States of America,” Gutierrez said this month, The Hill reported.

Previously, the Democrats Brad Sherman and Al Green have launched an official bid to remove Trump from office. The impeachment articles of Sherman were focused on the firing of the former FBI Director James Comey. According to the lawmaker, Trump has obstructed justice by firing Comey, who was in charge of the probe into the alleged Russian meddling in last year’s election. Green’s impeachment resolution includes a long list of charges like a demonstrable record of inciting white supremacy, sexism, bigotry, hatred, xenophobia, race-baiting and racism.

The new impeachment push comes amid reports that more and more Americans want that to happen. According to a Public Policy Polling survey, 49 percent of the respondents said that they would support the push for Trump’s impeachment, while another poll, made by Politico and Morning Consult, shows that 40 percent of the respondents would support Trump’s impeachment.

In the meantime, Representative Jamie Raskin thinks that even if Democrats remove Trump from office, that would only empower Vice President Mike Pence to take the reins of the presidency. In that way, there would be no drastic difference to the policy-making process.
