Mueller Interviews Top Trump Aide Stephen Miller

As part of his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, special counsel Robert Mueller interviewed White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, sources say.

Miller was one of the attendees at a meeting in March 2016 when George Papadopoulos suggested he could use his connections to arrange a meeting with President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last week Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about contacts with the Russians during the campaign. One of the topics talked about during the interview was the aide’s role in dismissing former FBI Director James Comey as possible obstruction of justice, CNN reports. Sources also say that Miller helped Trump in writing a memo which outlined the president’s reasons behind firing Comey, though it was eventually scrapped due to problematic contents.

Earlier this year a copy of the letter was provided to the special counsel, who is now scrutinizing it. Miller, who still works for the White House, is the highest-ranking aide to be interviewed by Mueller. He has had an important role in numerous White House policies.

Other former White House officials, including former chief of staff Reince Priebus, have already been interviewed by the special counsel’s team, while White House communications director Hope Hicks is to be interviewed this month, according to The Washington Examiner. Several other staffers of the White House, one of whom is John Raffel, Kushner’s communications aide, may also be interviewed.

Mueller has reportedly obtained a considerable amount of evidence, enough to bring charges against Michael Flynn, Trump’s national security adviser. Charges against former Trump campaign members have already been filed by Mueller. It is expected that the special counsel’s probe will end before Thanksgiving. Neither Mueller, nor his office responded to requests for comment.
