Trump Issues Warning to North Korea

President Donald Trump warned North Korea on Wednesday during a speech to South Korea’s National Assembly. He said the U.S. will oppose the nuclear aggression of Pyongyang and promised the United States will defend itself and its allies against it.

“Today, I hope I speak not only for our countries but for all civilized nations when I say to the North: Do not underestimate us. And do not try us,” Trump said.

His speech was also intended to send the leader of North Korea the message that the nuclear weapons he is obtaining are only endangering the regime, not making it safer. Trump called on other countries to take drastic actions so as to isolate Pyongyang as a means of forcing the hermit nation to put an end to its nuclear and missile program.

“All responsible nations must join forces to isolate the brutal regime. You cannot support, supply, you cannot accept,” Trump said in his address.

Trump retained his harsh rhetoric toward North Korea, pointing out American cities will not be intimidated by North Korea’s threats of destruction. Trump also maintained “we will not let the worst atrocities in history be repeated here, on this ground we fought and died so hard to secure.”

These warnings will certainly be noticed by China, where Trump is scheduled to land later on Wednesday. According to White House officials, President Trump will make efforts to pressure the Chinese president to cut down on its economic relationship with North Korea, thus isolating it. Due to the fact China is the largest trading partner of the rogue nation, Trump hopes President Xi Jinping will help him in bringing North Korea to the negotiating table.

Trump further noted that nations are to abide by UN economic sanctions against the regime, urging them to cut trade ties and downgrade their diplomatic relations with North Korea.
