The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi praised President Donald Trump for his effective foreign policy, saying that he is helping improve the precarious situation in the Middle East.
The Egyptian president is considered to be an ally of the United States who was previously commended by Trump as a president who had “done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation.” Al-Sisi set disregarded the implication that the U.S. threat to tear up the Iran nuclear deal could destabilize the Middle East. On the contrary, he suggested the security in the region had improved under Trump’s leadership.
“I see that President Trump is managing foreign policy in our region. Can I say in short that the United States has regained its weight in the region and its role, and is preserving the security of the region and its countries,” al-Sisi said. He added that Egypt supported and cooperated with President Trump on the matter.
The nuclear deal was struck between Iran, the U.S. and five other world powers in 2015, and since then Trump has asserted Iran hasn’t been complying with parts of it, pointing out he wants to scrap it. The Egyptian president also praised Trump on his domestic policy, expressing his belief that he could successfully lead the U.S.
“I very much admire President Trump. I anticipated his victory and I anticipate that he will succeed in managing a country as massive as the U.S.,” al-Sisi said. He has of late also improved relation with the Russian president.
Al-Sisi said over the weekend that he would not be seeking reelection as president, after serving two four-year terms, in compliance with the country’s constitution.
