Juli Briskman was fired from her job at government contractor Akima LLC after a photo of her flipping off President Trump’s motorcade went viral. The photo was taken by a White House photographer traveling with President Donald Trump, Huffington Post reports.
People on social media hailed Juli as a hero, but her employer wasn’t happy about the photo and decided to fire her. Her bosses told her that she violated the company’s social media policy because she had used the photo as her profile picture on Twitter and Facebook.
“They said, ‘We’re separating from you. Basically, you cannot have ‘lewd’ or ‘obscene’ things on your social media. So they were calling flipping him off ‘obscene,’” Briskman told Huffington Post.
Juli is a 50-year old mother of two who worked in marketing and communications at Akima. On Monday she told her employers about the photo and everything that was happening. By Tuesday her bosses called her into a meeting and fired her even though she told them that she wasn’t on the job when the incident happened and that her social media pages don’t mention the company. She told Huffington Post that the bosses told her that because Akima was a government contractor, the photo could hurt their business. Briskman, who is a Democrat, also described how she felt when the motorcade rolled up next to her.
“He was passing by and my blood just started to boil. I’m thinking, DACA recipients are getting kicked out. He pulled ads for open enrollment in Obamacare. Only one-third of Puerto Rico has power. I’m thinking, he’s at the damn golf course again. I flipped off the motorcade a number of times,” she said. Briskman added that she doesn’t regret anything, but said that she is angry about where the country is.
“In some ways, I’m doing better than ever. I’m angry about where our country is right now. I am appalled. This was an opportunity for me to say something,” she stated.
