Khamenei: United States Is Iran’s Number One Enemy

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the United States is Iran’s number one enemy and added that Tehran would never succumb to Washington’s pressure over a multinational nuclear deal.

“The American president’s foolish remarks against our people show the depth of America’s hostility towards the entire Iranian nation. America is the number one enemy of our nation,” Khamenei said.

Last month Trump refused to formally certify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal, according to which, most sanctions on Iran were lifted. Previously Trump criticized Iran and called it murderous while speaking to the United Nations General Assembly.

“We cannot let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities while building dangerous missiles, and we cannot abide by an agreement if it provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear program. The Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into. Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States and I don’t think you have heard the last of it, believe me,” Trump said in September.

Even though the deal was reached two years ago, Khamenei was regularly denouncing the United States. All of this time he was suggesting that antagonism between the two countries would not decrease because of the deal.

Britain France, Germany, Russia and China and the European Union, signatories of the deal, have warned that U.S. cannot cancel an international deal enshrined by a UN resolution unilaterally and Iran has said that it would respect the deal as long as the other sides respect it, Reuters reports.

“We will never accept their bullying over the nuclear deal … Americans are using all the wickedness to damage the result of the nuclear talks. Any retreat by Iran will make America more blatant and impudent … Resistance is the only option,” Khamenei said to chants of “Death to America” by students.
