Senate Interviewed Russians Who Were Present at Trump Tower Meeting with Trump Jr.

Investigators for the Senate Intelligence Committee have interviewed Russians who were present for the June 2016 meeting with Trump Jr. at Trump Tower, CNN reports.

The committee’s chairman, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), said that investigators spoke with some of the Russians who were at the meeting, but he did not specify which Russians were interviewed, or how many had been interviewed. He just explained that the committee was looking to speak with everyone else involved in the meeting.

The Hill reports that this is a proof that lawmakers are still focused on alleged collusion between Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.

The news came after the president’s son met last month with a Senate Judiciary Committee panel behind closed door.

Both Jared Kushner, Trump’s son in law, and Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman, were present for the Trump Tower meeting and the Intelligence Committee met them both.

Trump Jr. was promised damaging information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be useful for his father when he agreed to the meeting, the emails he released related to the meeting reveal.

“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” an intermediary wrote to Trump Jr.

“If what’s you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jr. responded.

According to CNN, eight people attended the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower, including British music publicist Rob Goldstone, as well as four people present as part of the Russian contingent: Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, Russian-American lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin, translator Anatoli Samochornov and Ike Kaveladze, who works for the Russian oligarch who initiated the meeting.
