Trump: Media Makes up More Stories than Americans Think

President Donald Trump blamed the media and news outlets for inventing and misrepresenting a big number of stories about his administration without presenting any proof that will support his claim, The Hill reports.

The President has cited a Politico/Morning Consult survey according to which, 46 percent of American citizens believe that the media and news outlets invent stories about the administration.

“’46% of Americans think the Media is inventing stories about Trump & his Administration.’ @FoxNews It is actually much worse than this!” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

According to the survey, about 67 percent of the Republicans believe that the media outlets make up stories about Donald Trump and his administration, however, only about 20 percent of the Democrats think this is the case.

Trump has often criticized the media for using fake news and incorrect statements by calling them “fake news.” He has continued to attack the media and news outlets over the past few weeks, recently calling to revoke the licenses of outlets he calls “fake news.”

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai said Tuesday that the agency lacks the authority to revoke broadcast licenses over content. Last week, the president urged the FCC in a tweet to consider challenging the network’s license after it published a story which he maintained was false.

“Under the law, the FCC does not have the authority to revoke a license of a broadcast station based on the content of a particular newscast,” the chairman said, adding that under his leadership “the FCC will stand for the First Amendment.”

The FCC does not grant licenses to broadcast networks, but only to individual broadcast stations on an eight-year period and renews them based on whether they are in the public interest. If a station exercises its First Amendments rights, courts say, their license cannot be challenged.
