According to Representative Steve Cohen, at least one Republican is thinking of giving support to articles to impeach President Donald Trump, The Hill reports.
“I have one Republican that has said he is looking at it, he’s considering it,” Cohen said on the “MSNBC Live with Alex Witt.” “I have other Republicans, just like Senator Bob Corker suggested, who have told me on a constant basis that they know this man is not balanced, he is not capable of continuing to lead us.”
Cohen also added that those Republicans will “privately tell you, by their words and by their expressions, that they would like to see an end” to Trump’s presidency.
“But, the Republican base is still supportive of Trump. That’s who’s strong in their primaries, and politically, they can’t come out and say it,” Cohen stated in the interview with Alex Witt.
In August, Cohen revealed his intention to initiate articles of impeachment against President Trump after he made some inappropriate remarks about the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.
“Instead of unequivocally condemning hateful actions by neo-Nazis, white nationalists and Klansmen following a national tragedy, the President said “there were very fine people on both sides.” There are no good Nazis. There are no good Klansmen,” Cohen stated.
“President Trump has failed the presidential test of moral leadership.” However, Cohen is not alone in these efforts. The Democrat, Representative Al Green disclosed articles of impeachment against Trump last week.
Trump “is fueling an alt-right hate machine” that’s causing “immediate injury to American society,” states one of these articles. Green decided not to put the articles to vote right away as he wanted his colleagues and the public to be able to take a look at them first.
