Trump: U.S. Policy toward North Korea Didn’t Work

President Donald Trump warned Kim Jong-un once again, posting on Twitter early Monday that the U.S. policy toward North Korea has not worked in the past twenty-five years, resulting only in billions of dollars being spent.

In the course of the past week, Trump made several ambiguous comments regarding North Korea, saying that “only one thing will work.” He also added that North Korea does not comply with agreements and violates them “before the ink was dry, making fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!”

Days before the president’s tweets he met with senior military leaders and told reporters “this might be the calm before the storm.” He refused to comment on the exact meaning of his statement.

Trump has condemned the United States diplomatic policy on more than one occasion, insisting that “talking is not the answer.” He recently berated his Secretary of State for attempting to negotiate with the “Rocket Man”, as he calls Kim Jong-un.

In the past few weeks, two missiles were launched over Japan by North Korea, which continues to conduct nuclear tests. Kim Jong-un is reported to have said that their nuclear weapons keep “the peace and security in the Korean Peninsula” against prolonged nuclear threats coming from “U.S. imperialists.”
