Senator Dianne Feinstein said she didn’t believe any gun laws could have stopped the massive shooting from happening. When asked which laws she would have enacted prior to the massacre in Las Vegas in order to prevent it, she said “I’m not sure there is any set of laws that could have prevented it.”
Feinstein made the comment in a period when Congress is discussing whether to proceed with gun control measures which they hope could help prevent another such tragedy from happening. She adamant that no law that Congress could pass would have resulted in a different outcome, stating that Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas shooter “passed background checks registering for handguns and other weapons on multiple occasions.”
However, the Democrat Senator is convinced that Congress needs to take action regarding gun control. She has already proposed a bill intended to ban bump stocks, which at the moment has 38 Democratic and no Republican sponsors, though some have expressed their interest in the bill.
Bump stocks were used by Paddock to transform semi-automatic weapons so that they fire like automatic ones. That is why Feinsten believes their banning would be a significant step, but she says it would not limit people’s access to guns. On the other had, she condemned the concealed-carry bill which gives people who possess concealed carry permits the right to use it in all other states.
Feinstein, who is a long time gun control advocate, said she considered the bill terrible and made the following statement: “We want every American to feel comfortable packing a concealed weapon around the country? I represent 40 million Californians, and I can say without hesitation Californians do not want concealed carry,” reports CBS News.
