The State of California is planning a lawsuit in order to block President Donald Trump’s proposal to construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, Politico reports.
“The lawsuit alleges that Trump’s administration violates federal law and the Constitution by intruding on state authority,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said.
“They’re violating the Tenth Amendment and infringing on a lot of state laws, not just federal laws, that effect our state. At the same time, they’re trying to do something that only Congress can do,” Becerra added.
In his presidential campaign, Trump has made a promise to build a border wall and added that the Mexican government would pay for it. Mexican officials have denied any contribution to this kind of project.
Trump administration officials started pressing forward with some studies and prototypes. In recent weeks, the Department of Homeland Security hired eight companies that will produce prototypes of potential barriers. One half of the contracts that were awarded were for concrete wall designs, while the other half will explore use of other materials.
