President Donald Trump will meet with victims and of Texas and Louisiana affected by Hurricane Harvey on Saturday, The Hill reports. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Friday that Trump will “visit with storm survivors and tell them personally that the federal government is here to help in any way that we can.”
Trump wasn’t able to visit storm areas or meet victims during his last visit to the area, according to Sanders, but will do so this visit. Last week, Trump visited Austin and Corpus Christi. This weekend, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will visit the hard-hit Houston, Texas, and Lake Charles, Louisiana, areas, according to the White House.
“He’ll have the chance to meet extensively with quite a few storm survivors, as well as talk with some of the volunteers that are helping administer a lot of the support that these individuals have needed over the last week,” Sanders said.
The Trumps will also visit a hurricane relief center near Houston, where aid is being coordinated during the extensive recovery efforts. In Lake Charles, they will meet with members of the county emergency operations center, National Guard and so-called “Cajun Navy,” or volunteers who brought their boats to assist in search and rescue operations. Trump will also meet with Texas and Louisiana lawmakers while he is in both states.
