Russia Says Trump and Putin May Have Had More Meetings at G-20

President Trump may have held more meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 summit earlier this month, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview published Friday.

“They might have met even much more than just three times,” Lavrov told NBC News.

Lavrov did not deny the possibility of additional meetings but did dismiss the importance of the encounters, comparing it to children interacting at a kindergarten.

“When you are bought by your parents to a kindergarten do you mix with the people who are waiting in the same room to start going to a classroom?” he asked.

Trump and Putin met informally before sitting down for a two-hour-plus bilateral meeting with Lavrov, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and a pair of translators.

President Trump later spoke with Putin for roughly an hour at a dinner for G-20 leaders and their spouses, joined only by Putin’s translator, in a meeting that had gone undisclosed until this week.

“After the dinner was over…I was not there…President Trump apparently went to pick up his wife and spent some minutes with President Putin…so what?” Lavrov said.
