Jared Kushner Hires Prominent Trial Lawyer for Russia Probes

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law is turning to a prominent defense lawyer, Abbe Lowell, to represent him in Russia-related investigations. Jared Kushner’s lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, says that Lowell has been added to the team representing Kushner,

Gorelick’s law firm, WilmerHale, is involved in the Russia investigation in multiple ways. Former FBI Director Robert Mueller left the company last month to serve as special counsel overseeing an investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The firm also represents ex-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Lowell is one of the country’s most prominent trial lawyers. He won the acquittal of former North Carolina Senator John Edwards in a campaign finance prosecution, and he currently represents New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez on bribery charges.

The 36-year-old Kushner, a real estate developer with no previous government experience, had at least three previously undisclosed contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States during and after the 2016 presidential campaign, seven current and former U.S. officials told Reuters in May.

Trump on Monday demanded that investigators apologize for looking into Russian interference and possible collusion with his election campaign, accusing predecessor President Barack Obama of having “colluded or obstructed”.
